Contemporary Costume Design & Performance Research

Scenic Lab

Scenic Lab is the performance costume design programme of Isabel is my name.

We collaborate with artists, choreographers, theatre companies and cultural institutions to conceive, research and develop costumes for contemporary dance, theatre, music, film and interdisciplinary performance.

Every project integrates artistic research, material experimentation and contemporary craftsmanship to explore the relationship between concept, form, volume, movement and the body in performance.

Beyond Costume Design

We understand costume as an active component of performance rather than a decorative element.

Every collaboration begins with dialogue, observation and artistic research, allowing costume to participate in the development of movement, dramaturgy, spatial relationships and visual language.

Fashion in Motion

Scenic Lab contributes to the creative process from its earliest conceptual stages through prototyping, fittings and production, working alongside artistic teams throughout the evolution of each project.

Scenic Lab explores the relationship between body, movement and contemporary costume through artistic research, material experimentation and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Every project investigates how garments perform in space, respond to movement and contribute to the narrative of performance.

Performance Design

Scenic Lab approaches costume not as decoration, but as a language of movement — a layer of dramaturgy built alongside the choreography itself.
In our work for the contemporary dance piece FEA, costume became an extension of the dancer's body and narrative arc: shaping silhouette, restriction and release, and giving the performer a visual identity that moves in dialogue with the choreography rather than simply dressing it.
This is the core of Scenic Lab's practice — an interdisciplinary space where fashion meets movement, dramaturgy and stage presence. We don't design garments to be worn on stage; we design wearable narratives that perform alongside the dancer, shaping how a body is seen, read and remembered.

Costume is not conceived as decoration.

It becomes an active element within the choreography, the dramaturgy and the spatial experience.

Every project begins with observation, movement analysis and dialogue with performers.
